in dekens,
draag laag
over laag op mijn lijf,
lees een boek in de stoffigste hoek
van dit vochtige huis.
maar ik leef hier niet
zonder hun twee,
dus behoor ik te plannen
en te verbeteren
met halfwassen handschoenen
om mijn tere boekhoudersvingers,
die op een toetsenbord thuis horen,
geen blote en vereelte buitenhanden
om de steel van een spade geklemd.
werken aan toekomst,
steeds meer toekomst.
wearing fingerless knit gloves
- they have freyed a bit and the short
threads tickle me whenever I touch my face -
I work with my nose close to a computerscreen
on something I will have to print lateron
or send back with my corrections.
In the mean while they are insulating
the roof and filling the hollow walls
with little plastic balls -
it's not really for me,
I like wrapping myself up
in blankets,
wear layer
over layer on my body,
read a book in the dusty corners
of this moist house.
But I do not live here
without the two of them
and that is why I have to plan
and correct with
unfinished gloves to protect my
tender book keeper fingers
which belong on a computer keyboard,
no bare weather skinned hands
clutching the handle of a spade.
working on the future,
always more future.
